There simply isn't the same tradition of football in the Republic. Gaelic's a shite game but, by Christ, those boys run round like cunts. Could teach our lot a thing or two about fitness.

Ireland's population is not that much less than Scotland's and they have a full time league.
Thousands of Irish fly over to the UK every weekend to watch football. If all those fans stayed in Ireland and spent 20 euros to watch their local sides it would make a huge difference to the infrastructure of Irish football and it's economy.
The standard is poor at the moment but would obviously improve if all these Celtic, Liverpool & Man Utd fans followed teams in their own country.
They could easily have a full time league to rival Scotland.

People won’t watch the Irish league because the standard is poor. It improved a few years ago then the Economy went down and the clubs were struggling to survive. It’s not as simple as to say the league would improve. I’m sure it would a bit but there things you have to remember. Ireland only has a population about half the size of Greater London. Gaelic Football and Hurling are more popular in most Counties. The Ireland Rugby team are obviously on the up and participation is increasing. Ireland is a country of emigration and they will always pick players of Irish heritage to complete and why not. England have a massive influx of immigrants and the team is made up of mainly of Players from Afro Carribean backgrounds especially from the Under 21 down

The lad has already played a couple of times for Ireland so he should stick with them.
It's absolutely ridiculous that you can change countries after playing for them.
On a side note I would suggest to the hundreds of thousands of Irish that spend thousands of pounds every year flying over to the UK to watch the likes of Celtic, Liverpool and Man Utd to support their local teams in their own country.
If they did this then Ireland could have a full time league to a similar standard to the Scottish league and could then start producing players for the Irish national team that were actually born in Ireland rather than picking scraps from England via the Granny rule.
